Electrical and Electronic Measurements mainly deals with the instruments used for the measurements in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Mainly the subject focus on the construction, principle and working of such instruments.

But the story of measurements has to be started from the basics of the measurements. While performing experimentation we need to measure the values of various parameters using measuring instruments. But, in that procedure we may make a mistake while taking the readings. This induces the error in the measurement.

Not only the personal mistakes that are done during the observations, but also there are many factors which could generate errors in the readings. For example, instrument caliberations, ambient temperature, initial conditions etc.

In this module I have quickly overviewd the errors. What is the exact definition of error as long as measurements are concerned? Typically error is nothing but the difference between Measured value and the True value of the instrument. I have explained in detail, what do we mean by ” Measured Value”. How “True value” is different from the measured value. And yes, the definition of error.

After defining the errors, I have given a brief idea about the types of errors. How the errors are classified? How can they impact on the calculations? etc.

Having defined errors, the next most important basics in the Electrical and Electronic Measurements, is obviously Accuracy. I have defined what is accuracy of the instrument. How Accuracy is different from the Precision, with the help of proper illustrations.

The term Resolution also plays an important role while understanding the working of many measuring instruments. So, I have made the clear cut explanation for the resolution of any instrument.

Electrical and Electronic Measurements typically carries 1 or 2 questions in the GATE EE exam. An Electrical Engineer preparing for the GATE exam can easily bag the questions of this subject with properly focused study.
