The electric field strength at distant point, P, due to a point charge, +q, located at the origin, is 100\mu V/m If the point charge is now enclosed by a perfectly conducting metal sheet sphere whose centre is at the origin, then the electric field strength at the point, P, outside the sphere, becomes

a) zero

b) 100\mu V/m

c) -100\;\mu V/m

d) 50\;\mu V/m

Explanation

The charge would appear on the surface of the sphere. And for finding the electric field at the point we need the formula for electric field due to charged sphere as the point is outside of sphere,

E=\frac1{4\pi\varepsilon}\times\frac Q{r^2}

where r is the distance from the center of the sphere.
