Refractive index of glass is 1.5. Find the wavelength of a beam of light with frequency of 1014 Hz in glass. Assume velocity of light is 3×108 m/s in vacuum.

Explanation

c=n\lambda \lambda_{vac}=\frac cf=\frac{3\times10^8}{10^{14}}=3\times10^{-6}m

For glass,

\begin{array}{l}\mu_g=\frac{\lambda_{vac}}{\lambda_g}\\\lambda_g=\frac{\lambda_{vac}}\mu=\frac{3\times10^{-6}}{1.5}=2\mu m\end{array}
