Let us see Numerical explaining PMMC reads the average value only.

**Q. A PMMC voltmeter is connected across a series combination of a DC voltage source V _{1} = 2V and AC voltage source V_{2}(t) = 3 sin(4t) V. The meter**

reads [2005]

a) 2 V

b) 5 V

c) \left ( 2+\frac{\sqrt{3}}{2} \right )V

d) \frac{\sqrt{17}}{2} \right )V

We know that PMMC reads average value.

V_{1} = 2V

Average value of V_{1} = 2V

V_{2}(t) = 3 sin (4t) V

Average value of V_{2} = 0 V

Total Voltage across PMMC = V_{T }= V_{1} + V_{2 }

Average value of V_{T} = Average value of V_{1} + Average value of V_{2 }

Average value of V_{T }= 2+0 = 2 V

So, PMMC or meter reads 2 V .

So, option (a) is the correct answer.
