Let us see Numerical explaining PMMC reads the average value only.
Q. A PMMC voltmeter is connected across a series combination of a DC voltage source V1 = 2V and AC voltage source V2(t) = 3 sin(4t) V. The meter
reads [2005]
a) 2 V
b) 5 V
c) \left ( 2+\frac{\sqrt{3}}{2} \right )V
d) \frac{\sqrt{17}}{2} \right )V
Ans.
We know that PMMC reads average value.
V1 = 2V
Average value of V1 = 2V
V2(t) = 3 sin (4t) V
Average value of V2 = 0 V
Total Voltage across PMMC = VT = V1 + V2
Average value of VT = Average value of V1 + Average value of V2
Average value of VT = 2+0 = 2 V
So, PMMC or meter reads 2 V .
So, option (a) is the correct answer.
